Foxlink Group and Qualcomm MEMS Technologies Commence Operations at Dedicated mirasol Display Fabrication Facility

Taipei , Taiwan- June 15, 2009 – Foxlink Group today announced that a dedicated mirasol display fabrication plant in the Longtan’s Science Park in Taoyuan, Taiwan has commenced operations.

Today’s announcement will be followed by an official opening ceremony of the dedicated mirasol fabrication plant on June 15. The opening will be attended by top Taiwanese politicians and key partners and executives from Foxlink and Qualcomm, including T.C.Gou, Foxlink Group’s chairman of the board and Paul Jacobs, Qualcomm’s chairman of the board and chief executive officers.

Sollink Inc., a display manufacturing subsidiary of electronic component maker Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co (Foxlink), said yesterday it would soon make its first shipment of next–generation handset displays using Qualcomm Inc technologies. In March, Sollink produced the first display using the so-called mirasol technology from Qualcomm MEMS, a fully owned display subsidiary of US handset chipmaker Qualcomm.

The display’s nature-based design results in low energy consumption and high reflectivity, offering consumers extended battery life and superior outdoor visibility, Sollink said.

Mirasol and similar displays would be suitable for mobile devices including handsets, portable navigation devices and portable multimedia players as well as electronic readers, he said.

“We just started a test run of the plant. We don’t expect the plant will have significant contribution [to our revenues] until we reach economic scale by building our second, or third plants,” Foxlink Group and Sollink chairman T.C. Gou said.

“Foxlink wants to form a long-term partnership with Qualcomm and Sollink was
the first step (…). Foxlink wants to become an electronic component supplier to Qualcomm in
several areas, including communications products and smartbooks, Chairman T.C. Gou said.

“We expect the new mirasol displays to be shipped with Foxlink’s products in the near term”, James Lee, a Foxlink board member, told a press briefing yesterday. “That will be a 1.43-inch display for ultra-slim mobile phones with thickness of 7mm.”

Foxlink Group will play an integral role in the operation of the mirasol fabrication facility, which is dedicated to manufacturing mirasol displays on generation 4.5 glass. In support of the effort, Foxlink Group has created a new business unit to support the production of Qualcomm MEMS Technologies’ mirasol displays. The collaboration solidifies Qualcomm MEMS Technologies’ strategy to support volume demands for future mirasol displays. As a result of the agreement, Qualcomm MEMS Technologies will be able to offer a more varied selection of display products while reducing the time to market of those products. The capabilities of the dedicated plant will increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve agility.

Qualcomm’s mirasol displays constitute a technology breakthrough that promises substantial performance benefits over competing display technologies. Based on reflective technology, mirasol displays use significantly less energy than traditional displays. The display’s nature-inspired design lends to low power consumption and high reflectivity, offering consumers extended battery life and superior outdoor visibility. The bistable nature of the mirasol display allows for near-zero power usage in situations where the display image is unchanged. Furthermore, mirasol display technology’s rapid refresh rate makes it suitable for video and multimedia.
